The Football For Good Leagues were devised by former footballer turned entrepreneur Keith Mabbutt, who is also the Founder and current CEO of the Street Soccer Foundation.
Operating nationally throughout England, the Street Soccer Foundation works in partnership with several Football Clubs and their Community teams to effect positive social change through the power of football.
The Football For Good Leagues have been born out of speaking with communities up and down the country. At the very heart of every Football Club is its community: the fans and supporters. And since its inception in 2015, the Street Soccer Foundation has operated as a partnership-led charity to achieve positive social impact nationwide. Together, Changing Lives through Football.
The Football For Good Leagues now give the perfect opportunity for teams of working professionals and the general public of all ages from across the country, to meet and network whilst looking after their physical and mental health and wellbeing – and at the same time, allowing for League participants to give back and support others in their local community. Making a difference to others less fortunate.
Playing for Change is what the Leagues stand for. The first Leagues with a social heartbeat. A social conscience. As a player in a Football For Good League, you know that every time you set foot on the pitch, you’ve just helped someone in your local community. Every single time you play.
The Football For Good Leagues will operate three terms throughout each year. Each League established aims to recruit at least 8 teams with matches played weekly throughout the season with teams playing each other twice in each 14-week term.
Term #1 – Starts September
Term #2 – Starts February
Term #3 – Starts June
Each Football For Good League will be managed by an appointed Referee and assisted by a Match Supervisor, with all Match Supervisors reporting into the National Leagues Co-ordinator at the Street Soccer Foundation (the parent operator of the Football For Good Leagues).
Matches are generally encouraged to be at least 12-minute halves with a 2-minute break at half-time and teams will change ends at half-time. Matches will be organised each week back-to-back. For more information, please visit our FAQs page.
As the intended Team Captain get your friends and/or work colleagues together to form a team, and simply join a league now at your chosen league venue.
Once registered we will contact you as the Team Captain to confirm the rules and provide further information prior to you and your team getting started in your Football For Good League.
On or before the day of your first match, as Team Captain you will need to pay your team match fee online: Every Football For Good League is a cashless League so you must pay your match fee online in advance of every game.
On the day of your first game you and your team will be greeted by a Football For Good Leagues Official, the Match Supervisor, who will also assist the League Referee, and all equipment will be provided for you.
If there is a clash of kit colours, we will also provide Football For Good Leagues bibs for one or both of the teams to wear.
The best bit? Each week, you know you are playing for yourself. For your own health and wellbeing. For your team. But not just that: Every time you put a foot on the pitch at your Football For Good League you will be making a true difference to others in your local community, just for showing up. #ChangeMakers
