League Rules

1. Start and End of Matches:

a) Play begins with a coin toss, and the winning team captain chooses to kick-off or choose an end.

b) Game duration is 12 minutes each way, with teams switching ends at halftime.

c) Each squad can have a maximum of eight players for a match.

2. Guest Players:

a) Teams can have up to two guest players per match, with agreement from the opposing captain and referee before kick-off.

b) The referee may refuse or accept guest players if they believe it significantly alters the match outcome.

c) Guest players can only be used to complete the basic squad of six and not as substitutes.

d) Teams using guest players remain liable for the full match fee, even if disciplined during the game.

3. Penalties:

a) In case of a penalty, time is added at the end of each half.

b) Penalty taker is limited to two steps before striking the ball.

c) The goalkeeper must stay on the line until the ball is struck.

d) Teams must clarify the penalty taker to the referee; failure may result in penalty disallowance.

e) If no penalty spot is visible, the kick is taken 1 yard back from the edge of the area.

4. The Goalkeeper/The Area:

a) Attackers and defenders can enter the area, and goalkeepers can leave their areas.

5. Back Passes:

a) Goalkeepers cannot pick up the ball from a back pass at any time.

6. Clothing:

a) Outfield players cannot wear caps, hats, jeans, or shoes. Goalkeepers can wear caps.

b) Players must play with a shirt on.

7. Substitutes:

a) Teams can have up to three substitutes.

b) Multiple substitutions are allowed but exceeding the allotted players on the pitch results in a penalty.

c) Substitutes can enter play in the opposition’s half during an attacking position.

d) Substitutes can be used at any time, and they cannot enter until the replaced player leaves.

8. The Head-Height Rule:

a) The ball cannot be played above head-height.

b) Referee determines head-height, where the entire ball passes above the tallest player’s height.

c) Free-kick is taken where the ball was played for rule infringement.

d) Heading of the ball is allowed.

9. Free Kicks, Kick-ins/Roll-ins & Corners:

a) All free kicks, kick-ins/roll-ins, and corners are direct.

b) Players must be two yards away from the ball on free kicks.

10. The Two Yard Rule:

a) Failure to retreat two yards results in a two-yard forward movement of the ball.

b) Dissent towards the referee may result in further two-yard advancements.

c) The referee may repeat two-yard intervals as necessary.

d) If the ball moves into the defending side’s area, a penalty is awarded.

11. General Rules:

a) Referee’s scoring overrules the scoreboard.

b) Referee judges dangerous tackles in the spirit of the game.

c) Teams must not alter equipment for an advantage.

d) Teams should attempt to wear similar colours; bibs provided as needed.

e) Late arrivals may forfeit matches.

f) Participation indemnifies the Street Soccer Foundation from personal injury liability.

g) Cancelled matches result in a 5-0 loss; self-isolation forfeits apply.

h) Vacancies may lead to friendly fixtures.

i) Teams are automatically entered into a new League season unless they provide us with the required two weeks’ notice prior to the end of the previous season. Teams will need to commit to playing (and paying) for the first two games of the new season before being able to withdraw.

12. The Sin Bin:

a) Yellow card results in a two-minute sin-bin; refusal leads to a red card.

13. Dismissal:

a) Dismissed players must leave the pitch immediately.

14. Time Wasting:

a) Officials actively address time wasting; penalties at referee’s discretion.

15. Penalties For Infringement Of The Rules:

a) Direct free kicks for rule infringements; penalties for specific actions.

b) Referee’s discretion in case of rule violations.

Female Players:

In accordance with the 2010 Equalities Act, ladies and mixed teams are welcome.

Participants play at their own risk; participants will also arrange personal insurance for injuries. The Street Soccer Foundation holds public liability insurance only and concludes that it takes no responsibility for any injury sustained whilst anyone plays in any Football For Good League.

Match Fees:

All accepted teams commit to participate for a minimum of fourteen consecutive weeks per season. Match fees are non-refundable and must be paid in advance of scheduled matches each week.
